Premier Li Keqiang and German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with representatives attending the Sino-German Dialogue Forum at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Sept 6.

Premier Li said that the forum has produced positive results since its foundation. The two sides have overcome differences in systems, cultures and development levels to pursue common interests, which not only benefits bilateral ties but also promotes practical collaboration and helps improve the well-being of the people.

As two major economies in the world, China is the world’s largest developing country while Germany is an important developed country and manufacturing power. They are open to each other, the Premier said, adding that there is huge potential for the partnership with increasing people-to-people exchange.

The two sides’ governments should support the suggestions for cooperation in six fields proposed at the forum and create favorable conditions for collaboration, Premier Li said.

He also asked for the implementation of what has been decided by both sides, and said he expects more achievements in the forum next year.

Merkel said the proposals in six fields proposed at the forum are very important and conducive to bilateral ties. Both countries are facing challenges in climate change, sustainable development, smart cities, and aging populations, she said.

There are new opportunities for cooperation, she added, saying that people in all fields from the two countries can learn from each other and achieve mutual development.

Over 60 representatives from business, political and academic circles of the two countries attended the meeting.

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wan Gang, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC and head of the National Development and Reform Commission He Lifeng attended the meeting.
