Xinhua — The value added of China’s high-tech industry grew 12.3 percent year-on-year in 2014, driven by the country’s restructuring efforts, according to a National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report released on Feb 26.

The high-tech industry in 2014 accounted for 10.6 percent of the country’s overall industrial value-added output, which rose 7 percent from 2013 to 22.8 trillion yuan ($3.71 trillion).

In 2014, the value added of the tertiary industry in China grew 8.1 percent year-on-year, 0.8 percentage points faster than the growth of the secondary industry, according to the report.

Xie Hongguang, deputy chief of the NBS, said the fast expansion of the high-tech and modern service industries shows China’s economy is advancing to a “middle and high end”.
