BEIJING — Prices of farm produce in China continued to increase last week, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce.
From Aug 19 to 25, the overall prices of farm produce climbed 2.3 percent on a weekly basis, narrowing from the 2.7-percent increase in the previous week.
In breakdown, the average wholesale cost of 30 types of vegetables edged down 0.5 percent week-on-week, while that of 6 types of fruits registered a 1.7-percent drop during the same period.
Pork and beef saw an increase of 8.8 percent and 1.4 percent on their wholesale prices, respectively, and that of mutton edged up 0.7 percent.
Egg prices also went up 3.3 percent from the previous week.
Food accounts for about one-third of China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation.
Official data showed China's CPI rose 2.8 percent year-on-year in July, driven by higher fruit and pork prices.
