China's power generation sees stable growth

BEIJING — China's power generation continued to increase steadily in November, registering a 4 percent growth year-on-year, official data showed on Dec 16.

Electricity output hit 589 billion kilowatt-hours last month, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

A breakdown of the data showed a slower growth of coal-fired electricity generation, which rose 4.4 percent year-on-year, down 1.5 percentage points from October.

Hydropower fell 6.4 percent, a sharper decline than the 4.1 percent drop recorded in October. Solar power climbed 2.7 percent, down 0.3 percentage points from the previous month.

In October, nuclear and wind power generation both saw faster growth, jumping 14.9 percent and 20.7 percent, respectively.

In the first 11 months of 2019, China's total power generation increased 3.4 percent year-on-year to 6.5 trillion kWh, the NBS data showed.
