BEIJING — China's transportation industry further narrowed its year-on-year contraction in April as business resumption gained more momentum, with cargo transport near the level of the same period last year, industry data showed.
The China Transportation Services Index (CTSI) stood at 131.5 points last month, down 21.9 percent year-on-year, according to the China Academy of Transportation Sciences.
The decrease was 6.6 percentage points lower than that recorded in March.
The CTSI incorporated the transport volume of passengers and cargo of various transportation means including railway, highway, waterway and civil aviation. With 2010 as the base year and 100 points as the base value, the index includes passenger transport and cargo transport as two subindexes.
The subindex for passenger transport plunged by 61.2 percent year-on-year last month, while that for cargo transport dropped by 1.2 percent, shrinking by 5.2 percentage points and 7.4 percentage points from March, respectively.
