BEIJING — The wholesale prices of China's agricultural products edged up on Aug 17, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
The latest China agricultural product wholesale price index came in at 118.9, up 0.62 points from Aug 14.
By 2 pm on Aug 17, the average wholesale price of pork, a staple meat in China, went up 0.3 percent to 48.41 yuan (about $7) per kg, while that of eggs slid 2.4 percent to 7.78 yuan per kg.
The average wholesale price of 28 key types of vegetables tracked by the government was up 2.7 percent from Aug 14, while that of six different types of fruits declined 1.1 percent to 5.27 yuan per kg.
The wholesale price index is compiled from data collected from around 200 agricultural wholesale markets and is updated daily based on the weighted average of price indexes for goods including vegetables, fruit, aquatic products, livestock products, cereals, and edible vegetable oil.
