BEIJING, June 25 -- China's total installed power generation capacity reached 4.01 billion kilowatts by the end of May 2026, the National Energy Administration (NEA) said Thursday, noting that the figure put China at the top of the world by this measure.

Non-fossil energy has emerged as a major driver of the growth, accounting for 62 percent of total installed capacity by the end of May, up from 25 percent in 2010, the NEA said.

Over the same period, renewable energy's share of total installed capacity jumped from 24 percent to 61 percent, the administration said.

NEA data also showed growth in installed power generation capacity has continued to pick up pace in recent years.

Commenting on the 4-billion-kilowatt milestone, Yang Kun, executive vice chairman of the China Electricity Council, said that it will not only help safeguard China's energy security, but also accelerate the green, low-carbon transition and strengthen scientific and technological self-reliance.

Global energy prices have been fluctuating sharply amid factors such as geopolitical conflicts, but China's energy supply has remained stable and orderly.

China has also remained the world's largest exporter of wind and photovoltaic power products, helping accelerate the global transition to green energy with its advanced technologies.
