BEIJING, April 4 -- The State Council, China's cabinet, on Tuesday announced the appointment and removal of officials.

Xu Datong was appointed vice minister of public security, replacing Du Hangwei.

Chen Zhenlin was appointed head of the China Meteorological Administration, while Song Baowei was named president of Northwestern Polytechnical University.

Tan Zhemin replaced Lyu Jian as president of Nanjing University.

Li Shushen was removed from the post of vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
