HANGZHOU, Oct. 19 -- The torch relay for the 4th Asian Para Games officially started in Chun'an county, Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province on Thursday.
Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin lit the torch from a cauldron and handed it to Tan Yujiao, the first torchbearer and weightlifting champion of the Rio and Tokyo Paralympic Games, and then announced the start of the relay.
Xiang Huaxing, the fifth torchbearer, said he was thrilled to pass the Asian Para Games torch in his hometown.
"I hope that all the people with disabilities can be confident and transcend their limitations," said Xiang, who won six golds and three silvers at the National Para Games.
Chun'an County, known for its beautiful tourist attraction of "Thousand Islands Lake", is the largest county in the province and will host the Asian Para Games' cycling events.
After the Chun'an leg, the torch relay will proceed to Jiande City of Tonglu County, and Xiaoshan District in Hangzhou, with each location hosting it for half a day.
Hangzhou just hosted the 19th Asian Games, where China finished atop the tally with 201 golds. The 4th Asian Para Games will be held between Oct. 22-28.
