China renews yellow alert for severe convection weather

BEIJING, April 16 -- China's meteorological authority on Tuesday renewed a yellow alert for severe convection weather, forecasting thunderstorms, gales and hail as well as heavy rain in some parts of the country.

From Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning, thunderstorms, gales and hail will sweep parts of Gansu, Anhui, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou and Guangxi, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC).

Intense heavy rainfall, with hourly precipitation ranging from 30 mm to over 70 mm, will lash parts of Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou and Guangxi, the center said.

The center advised drivers to drive carefully due to low visibility and vessels to maintain a safe navigation distance.

China has a three-tier color-coded weather warning system for severe convection weather and sandstorms, with orange representing the most severe warning, followed by yellow and blue.
