With precise hoisting and installation of the 180-tonne steel box girder, the western extension of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) was fully completed in south China's Guangdong Province on Wednesday.
Spanning about 31 kilometers, including a 15-kilometer stretch over water, the cross-sea passage extends the HZMB westward, bolstering connectivity across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The main project of the passage, the Huangmaohai Bridge, the world's largest cable-stayed bridge with three towers, has a total length of 2,200 meters. The passage is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2024.
