HANGZHOU — Europe-bound freight trains departing from China's small commodity hub Yiwu have seen surging deliveries this year, railway sources said on March 23.

A train loaded with 100 TEUs of cargo departed from Yiwu for Minsk, Belarus, on the afternoon of March 23. It was the 300th China-Europe freight train passing through the city since Jan 1.

The 300 trains have carried a total of 25,058 TEUs of commodities, an increase of 373.9 percent compared with the same period last year.

Since the cargo route linking Yiwu with Europe via Xinjiang in Northwest China was launched in 2014, Yiwu has handled over 2,900 China-Europe freight trains, delivering over 240,000 TEUs.
