The China Association for Science and Technology will enhance collaboration with the Institution of Engineers in Singapore to facilitate the commercialization of engineering achievements, train quality professionals, and promote exchanges, information sharing, and cooperation.
On June 30, CAST and IES signed a memorandum of understanding and a mutual recognition agreement for engineers from both countries.
Zhang Yuzhuo, vice-president and chief executive secretary of the secretariat of CAST, said in the welcoming ceremony that CAST has always prioritized dialogue and cooperation with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
CAST's collaboration with IES shows that the Chinese scientific community is willing to cooperate with international peers and jointly make new breakthroughs, he added.
Zhang said the scientific communities in both countries should facilitate the commercialization of engineering research outcomes, allowing them to contribute to people's lives and sustainable development.
Both sides should also train more quality engineering professionals, deepen cooperation, share information and inject new momentum into the global collaboration of engineering technology and innovation, he added.
Dalson Chung, the president of IES, said his institution and CAST share the same aspiration to use science, engineering, and technology to improve people's livelihood, nurture talent, and boost economic growth.
The mutual recognition agreement is a positive development for promoting the free flow and exchange of engineering talent from both countries, he said, adding it represents a new starting point for bilateral cooperation.
Chung hopes both countries can build on this opportunity to facilitate more cooperation and contribute more to society.
