Construction begins on high-speed mountain railway in Chongqing

Construction began on the Chongqing-Hunan High-speed Railway, in Banan district, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, on June 9. With a length of 269.5 kilometers, the Chongqing-Hunan High-speed Railway is a major part of the Xiamen-Chongqing High-speed Railway in the eight horizontal and eight vertical high-speed railway network laid out in the nation’s medium- and long-term railway network development plan. The Chongqing section, currently under construction at full capacity, is projected to start operations in June 2025 and will be the first mountain railway in the municipality that runs at a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
