The University of Science and Technology of China announced on Dec 4, 2020, that its research team including renowned Chinese quantum physicist Pan Jianwei had established a quantum computer prototype, named “Jiuzhang”, through which up to 76 photons were detected. It only takes the computer 200 seconds to perform the extremely esoteric calculation of Gaussian boson sampling. The breakthrough makes China the second country in the world to achieve “quantum supremacy”. [Photo/Xinhua]
