The first two 500,000-kW power generation units went operational on Sept 29 at the Lianghekou hydropower plant, China's highest-altitude mega hydropower plant, marking major progress in the construction of the middle reaches of the country’s third largest hydropower base. The Lianghekou hydropower plant is a key project of the State and Sichuan province, part of the Great Western Development Strategy to optimize the supply-side structural adjustment in energy. With an approved investment of 66.46 billion yuan, the project’s construction started in October 2014 and is expected to be completed by 2023. [Photo/Xinhua]
