A State Council policy briefing held on Oct 10 elaborated on guidelines for boosting mass fitness and promoting facilities for Fitness-for-All programs.

Li Jianming, deputy head of the General Administration of Sport of China, said that a national management and services platform for community sports activities will be built, with the adoption of Internet Plus community sports.

And a brand - the national communication games - will be promoted to stoke people’s interest and passion in participating in sports events.

Work will also be done to increase sports instructors and optimize their rating system, he added, and stressed their important role in organizing community sports activities as well as guiding fitness scientifically.

Wang Ke, of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, introduced the pilot program of building community football venues in cities.

The program has been in progress in nine cities including Wuhan, Hubei province, and Dalian, Liaoning province, since April 2019. Nearly 539 community football venues have been built in line with local conditions, which can be replicated and extended, he said.

Smart renovations of fitness facilities, such as sports parks, gyms and walkways, will be done with 5G networks and supporting equipment, according to Ou Xiaoli from the National Development and Reform Commission.

"As the fight against COVID-19 epidemic has taught us, new sports venues or those to be renovated could be converted into mobile hospitals or emergency shelters within a short time," Ou said.
