BEIJING — China on Oct 30 unveiled a platform for registering e-mail address in Chinese characters, the first of its kind.
The platform was revealed during a meeting on multi-language e-mail technology for APEC members by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).
Wang Xiujun, deputy chief of the National Internet Information Office (NIIO), said at the meeting that multiple-language e-mail technology helps nonnative English speakers use Internet and narrow the Digital Divide.
Li Xiaodong, head of CNNIC, called for full support for multi-language e-mail technology, which includes Chinese from Internet companies, institutions and e-mail service providers.
