BEIJING — China’s leading group for overall reform on Dec 30 convened its eighth meeting, which reviewed and approved measures for better handling of properties involved in crimes.

The meeting, which was presided over by President Xi Jinping, said the measures represent a major move to improve judicial justice and increase the credibility of the judicial system.

In recent years, some major judicial injustices have occurred when dealing with properties involved in crimes, a statement issued after the meeting said.

The handling of properties involved in crime is a complicated issue as it often involves multiple departments and different regions and the same property might be involved in different cases.

The statement urged all regions and departments to strengthen cooperation and called for exploring the possibility of setting up a central platform to share information about property involved in crimes.

The statement warned Party and governmental officials not to interfere in the handling of properties involved in crimes.

It also called for strengthened work in pursuing fugitives and recovering stolen money and assets from abroad. Better institutions and mechanism must be put into place as soon as possible and everything must be done in accordance with the law, said the statement.

Deputy leaders of the group Li Keqiang, Liu Yunshan and Zhang Gaoli attended the meeting.
