TAIYUAN — A total of 17 new counties in northern China's Shanxi province have been removed from China's list of impoverished counties, marking all of its 58 impoverished counties get rid of poverty, local authorities said Feb 28.

In 2019, 239,000 people were lifted out of poverty in Shanxi, according to the provincial poverty alleviation and development office.

In central China's Henan province, another 14 counties have been removed from the list, the provincial government told a press conference Feb 28.

This means all 53 impoverished counties in the province have shaken off poverty, it said.

So far, more than 6.5 million rural people and 9,484 villages have bid farewell to poverty in Henan, with the poverty headcount ratio dropping to 0.41 percent in 2019 from 8.79 percent in 2013.
