BEIJING — Amid further containment of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic, China is powering ahead in returning to work and resuming business and production. The following are the latest facts and figures:
— China pledged multi-pronged support to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) resume work and production, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on April 16.
Data from the ministry showed that work resumption rate for SMEs reached 84 percent as of April 15, while companies in the secondary industry outperformed those in the service sector.
— China has accelerated the return of migrant workers to work and the restoration of poverty alleviation projects amid the battle against poverty and COVID-19.
As of April 10, some 23.53 million impoverished migrant workers from 25 provincial-level regions had returned to their workplaces, rising roughly 9.33 million from the reading registered on March 6, according to the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development.
— The 127th session of the China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, will be held online from June 15 to 24, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The online session of the fair is an innovation to cushion the impact of COVID-19 and ensure the stability of foreign trade and investment, which will better play the fair's role as an all-round opening-up platform, said an official with the ministry.
— The city of Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province will issue vouchers worth 1.8 billion yuan ($254 million) to boost consumption, the municipal government said on April 16.
Starting at 10:00 am on April 18, residents in Wenzhou, a major commercial hub in the province, will be able to apply for the vouchers on Alibaba's online-payment service Alipay. Millions of vouchers, worth 68 yuan each, will be handed out.
