BEIJING — Here are the latest developments on the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in China:
— Nucleic acid testing services provided by 189 testing labs have been available across Central China's Hubei province, with an average of 54,000 people being tested daily since March 30.
— Beijing will carry out mandatory nucleic acid tests on eight groups of people, including COVID-19 patients, those who have a history of close contact with the patients, fever clinic patients, patients in urgent need of hospitalization, inbound visitors through Beijing's entry customs, people who recently returned from Wuhan, government employees who had trips outside Beijing, visitors in Beijing's hotels and guesthouses, students in graduating classes in junior and senior high schools upon returning to Beijing.
—Beijing has reopened 73 major tourist sites, or 30.7 percent of the total in the municipality, as the novel coronavirus epidemic wanes.
— The National Health Commission said on April 19 that it received reports of 16 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland on April 18, of which nine were imported.
The other seven new cases were domestically transmitted, with six cases in Heilongjiang province and one in Guangdong province, the commission said in a daily report.
— Shanghai reported seven imported cases of COVID-19 on April 18. All of them were Chinese citizens returning from countries including Britain, the United States and Russia. They have been sent to designated medical institutions for treatment.
— Beijing will recognize health status of personnel commuting from its neighboring regions as a way to facilitate their commute, local authorities said on April 18.
— Wuhan, once the hardest-hit city by the novel coronavirus outbreak, was classified as a low-risk area of the outbreak as the city has met the criteria of no newly confirmed cases for the last 14 days.
By the end of April 17, the central province of Hubei, which administers Wuhan, had 76 low-risk cities and counties and none with high risk or medium risk, according to the provincial COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control headquarters April 18.
