BEIJING — The construction of the Wukesong Ice Sports Center, the ice hockey training venue for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, was completed on Nov 26, according to Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office.
Located to the southeast of Wukesong Gymnasium, the ice hockey competition venue for Beijing 2022, the Wukesong Ice Sports Center covers 38,960 square meters.
In the Wukesong Ice Sports Center, two floors underground are ice rinks, while the two floors above ground are sports culture supporting rooms and a 900-seat theater.
During Beijing 2022, the Wukesong Ice Sports Center will be used for athletes' warm-ups and training. It is connected with the competition venue through special underground passageways. After the competitions, it will meet the needs of mass fitness and entertainment.
Two standard ice hockey fields are set up in the Wukesong Ice Sports Center. It adopts carbon dioxide trans-critical direct cooling technology to make ice, saving more than 40 percent comprehensive energy consumption compared with the traditional one.
The external curtain wall of Wukesong Ice Sports Center features snowflakes that will fall at night in five colors under advanced technology that has a cascading and shading effect.
The 2022 Winter Olympics are scheduled for February 4 to 20 in 2022, and will be followed by the Paralympics, set for March 4 to 13.
