BEIJING — China's State Council announced the appointment and removal of officials on Dec 7.

Liu Guiping was appointed vice-governor of the People's Bank of China.

Hou Jianguo was appointed president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), replacing Bai Chunli. Yin Hejun and Zhou Qi were appointed CAS vice-presidents.

Huang Yuzhi was appointed head of the National Mine Safety Administration, and Li Wanjiang, Song Yuanming, and Huang Jinsheng were appointed deputy heads of the administration.

Guang Defu was appointed Permanent Representative of China to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture, replacing Niu Dun.

Zhang Yiquan was removed from the post of vice-minister of human resources and social security.

Han Jun was removed from the post of vice-minister of agriculture and rural affairs.
