BEIJING— Here are the latest developments from China's COVID-19 control and prevention efforts:

— North China's Hebei province reported 40 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases and 26 asymptomatic cases on Jan 11.

Of the confirmed cases, 39 were reported in the provincial capital Shijiazhuang, and the other one in the city of Langfang. Among them, two were previously asymptomatic carriers.

All of the new asymptomatic cases were reported in Shijiazhuang.

— Northeast China's Heilongjiang province reported one confirmed domestically transmitted COVID-19 case and 36 new asymptomatic infections on Jan 11.

The confirmed case was a previous asymptomatic carrier and the 36 new asymptomatic infections, all logged in Huiqi village, Wangkui county, were screened out as close contacts or secondary close contacts of earlier reported cases.

— Beijing reported one new locally transmitted COVID-19 case on Jan 11.

The confirmed case was a five-year-old boy living in the city's Shunyi district. He received a nucleic acid test as a close contact of a confirmed patient and tested positive for COVID-19 on Jan 10.

— Hebei province has suspended activities at city parks and squares amid efforts to tame the latest outbreak of COVID-19.

Local authorities have ordered the closure of parks and squares in or within 500 meters of the high-risk areas. As for those in the medium- and low-risk areas, the number of visitors should not exceed 75 percent of maximum capacity.

— Over 1 million people in Beijing had received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine as of 11 am on Jan 11. Beijing is expected to complete administering the first dose of the jab among specific groups of people with higher infection risks by Jan 15.
