More than 2,700 projects have been undertaken in the Tibet autonomous region over the past three years by Aid-Tibet to assist the region's social and economic development, the regional Development and Reform Commission said at a news conference on July 26.

Since 2019, Aid-Tibet projects have involved 17 provinces and cities and 28 State-owned key enterprises. More than 2,100 Aid-Tibet cadres from different fields have been dispatched to work in the region.

"Over the past three years, more than 20 billion yuan ($3 billion) of investment has been invested to promote the region's high-quality economic development," said Yang Xiaolin, who leads the Aid-Tibet program.

"With poverty alleviation, more than 900 livelihood projects have been implemented, helping lift about 19,500 families out of poverty."

Aid-Tibet projects have improved conditions at the region's 21 major hospitals, and the teaching quality at 21 schools receiving assistance has continued to rise, he added.

Thanks to the Aid-Tibet program, more than 18,000 poor students and orphans received financial support over the three years, along with nearly 7,000 patients with congenital heart problems, cleft palates and lip and Kashin-Beck disease — a disorder of the bones and joints.
