The city Sanxingdui is believed to have been the largest in southern China over three thousand years ago during the Shang Dynasty.

A section of city walls, believed to be the north part of the wall of the ancient city of Sanxingdui, has been discovered at this archaeological site recently. This is in addition to the east, west and south sections of the city walls already unearthed.

“According to its location, and its positional relation with the east and west city wall, we infer that it may be the north city wall or at least a part of it,” said Ruan Honglin, staff member of Sanxingdui Ruins Work Station.

In addition, three tombs have been discovered under the walls. And a complete human skeleton was found in the middle one. Archaeologists say that the tombs date back to the Neolithic or New Stone Age, earlier than the city walls of Shang Dynasty.

The Sanxingdui site is located in the city of Guanghan, 40 kilometers from Chengdu. It is recognized as one of the most important ancient remains in the world.
