Updated: Jan 11,2015 1:49 PM

A promotional year to attract more visitors to the ancient Silk Road that linked China with countries across the Euro-Asian land mass was launched. The ceremony was held in Xi’an, in Northwest China’s Shaanxi province, the starting point of the ancient Silk Road.

Over 2,000 years ago, several trade routes connecting major civilizations across Asia, Europe and Africa were established. Collectively, they were referred to as the “Silk Road” and are regarded as having rich tourist potential.

The China National Tourism Administration is promoting travel opportunities to countries along this route which are steeped in culture.
