China and Japan have held their fourth round of talks in Tokyo on instituting a maritime crisis management mechanism.

Both countries agreed to launch it as soon as possible, after a broad agreement is reached.

Taking part in the working level talks are officials from Japan’s Defense Ministry and the Maritime Self-Defense Force and China’s Defense Ministry. They reaffirmed basic agreements to date and discussed specifics of the mechanism, including adjustments that are needed to address technical problems.
