Chinese lanterns are a common sight during the lunar new year. One of the most popular lantern shows is in Sichuan province.

Colorful, bright lanterns light up the sky. The annual Zigong Lantern Festival opened on Feb 2, attracting thousands of visitors.

The festival is in its 21st year. . The festival runs until March 15th.

In northeast China, in Liaoning province, another local lantern festival opened last weekend. Hundreds of sets of lanterns are on display.

A crowd pleaser at this year’s event is a 30-meter tall lotus lantern — the largest lotus lantern in the world.

The Tieling Lantern Festival runs till March 8th.
