China’s consumer inflation remains flat in March, slightly beating estimates, while industrial prices keep falling, though by a narrower range.

Official figures show that the consumer price index came in at a 1.4 percent increase year on year, but slid 0.5 percent from the previous month. Analysts say seasonal factors are at play, as food and service supplies resume normal level after the Chinese new year holiday.

On a separate note, the price of goods at the factory gate, or the producer price index, fell 4.6 percent on an annual basis, better than expected and also better than the 4.8 percent fall the prior month. This is the first time the decrease has become narrower since July of last year.

Price tags for oil, chemical products, and metallurgy contributed to the rise.
