Team of 80 arrive in Xigaze for relief effort

The Nepal quake and its aftershocks have affected some parts of western China’s Tibet autonomous region. Authorities say they enforced traffic control to ensure a smooth rescue-and-relief operation.

They say the roads leading to the affected areas are mostly in rough, mountainous terrain, and several landslides have caused traffic congestion. Only vehicles with specific rescue-and-relief missions are now allowed to travel on those roads.

Meanwhile, 80 Chinese soldiers with experience in earthquake search-and-rescue have been deployed to the relief effort in quake-affected Xigaze City. They were carried in nine military helicopters, six of which left the Chengdu Military Area Command base on April 27, while the other three departed from Tibet’s Nyingchi base.
