Testing and commissioning work for the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) is drawing to an end after a smooth three-year trial operation. FAST, the world's largest single-dish radio telescope, was put into operation on Sept 25, 2016, in Southwest China's Guizhou province.
So far, FAST has detected and identified 99 pulsars, more than 30 of which are faster millisecond pulsars. To fulfill the needs of different scientific projects, researchers have increased FAST's observation modes from three to more than 10.
The development for new receiving equipment is also underway.
