Updated: August 26, 2020 09:24 Xinhua

Photovoltaic (PV) power stations built in mountainous areas of Mongolian autonomous county of Weichang, North China's Hebei province have helped lift local villagers out of poverty.

In 2017, Tianjin municipality's Wuqing district paired up with Weichang county to help it cut poverty. Since then, Wuqing has invested 89.36 million yuan (over $12.92 million) in building PV power stations in Weichang. In Feb 2020, Weichang county shook off poverty, with the poverty headcount ratio falling from 14.73 percent at the end of 2016 to 0.28 percent at the end of 2019.
