The No 4 power-generating unit of China's Baihetan Hydropower Station was put into operation on Nov 19.

The No 4 unit with a capacity of one million kilowatts is the sixth of the designed operational units of Baihetan. The mega-project was equipped with 16 world's largest hydropower generating units, which perched on the banks of the Jinsha River.

In addition to environmental protection, the construction of the power stations also indicated that China has embarked on the road toward independent innovation in manufacturing major hydroelectric equipment.
