China's first regulations to promote ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River basin came into effect on March 1, marking a major step in conserving and restoring the ecological environment of the country's second-longest river.

The regulations have provisions on disaster prevention and response as well as legal liability for preserving the basin area.

Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region serves as a demonstration zone in this endeavor.
