In China, over 6 million railway trips were made on Monday, with a total of almost 8,500 trains in operation. The number of passengers is still on the rise, extra trains were added in some major cities including Beijing, Jinan and Xi'an.

Transport authorities expect about 2.1 billion trips during the holiday. That would be double the trips made in the same period last year.
