The General Office of the State Council, in a circular released on Dec 30, approved establishing an inter-ministerial joint conference system on national metrology to enhance coordination and guidance in related work and foster a better metrology system to serve China’s social-economic development.

The joint system will promote the metrology governance system and modernization, study and boost implementation of important policies and measures, build a unified and coordinated system for metrological traceability, standards and supervision, push forward improvement in laws and regulations and the construction of related infrastructure, and solve major issues in the process.

Led by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), the joint conference contains 25 departments, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Public Security.

Its office will be set at SAMR, and meetings may be held at regular or irregular intervals as needed.
