The State Council, in a circular issued on March 9, approved adjusting and improving the inter-ministerial joint conference on “river chiefs” and “lake chiefs”.

According to the circular, the joint conference should implement major policies on strengthening the “river chief” and “lake chief” system, coordinate the work nationwide, and study major issues.

It is also supposed to solve major problems arising from the promotion of the system, and supervise its implementation.

Led by the Ministry of Water Resources, the inter-ministerial joint conference consists of 18 departments, including the Ministry of Water Resources, National Development and Reform Commission, and Ministry of Education.

The office is set in the Ministry of Water Resources to undertake daily work of the conference.

Meetings will be held as required.

Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua will serve as convener, and Minister of Water Resources Li Guoying and Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council Gao Li will serve as vice-conveners.
