The State Council issued a circular on April 27, to establish a leading group on protection of minors, in a bid to strengthen overall planning, coordination, supervision, and guidance, better protect the physical and mental health of minors, and safeguard their legal rights.
According to the circular, the leading group will coordinate with units concerned and push forward formulation and implementation of plans, policies, measures, and standards for protection of minors.
The group will also supervise and inspect the implementation of the Law on the Protection of Minors and related laws, regulations, and systems.
In addition, the group will supervise and handle disposal of major cases violating minors' legal rights.
The group will be led by Vice-Premier Sun Chunlan, and deputy heads include State Councilor Wang Yong and State Councilor and Public Security Minister Zhao Kezhi.
With its office set up in the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the leading group on juvenile protection will convene work conferences as needed.
