The General Office of State Council has agreed that Guangdong province, Hong Kong special administrative region (SAR) and Macao SAR will host the 15th National Games in 2025, in a reply letter to the General Administration of Sports, Ministry of Finance, and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, on Aug 21.

The government of Guangdong province, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR should finance the preparation and holding of the games, while the central government will provide a one-time subsidy of fixed amount, according to the letter.

It also stressed simple, safe and fine organization of the games to fit the practical conditions of local economic and social development, promoting full use of existing venues and facilities to save on costs for a strict budget management.

Restrictions on the scale of the games should be imposed amid all-out prevention and control over the COVID-19 epidemic, it added.
