The State Council has approved a national territorial spatial plan for Xiamen, East China’s Fujian province, for the 2021-2035 period, according to an official reply released on Jan 9.
According to the reply, by 2035, the total area of cultivated land in Xiamen should be no less than 194,700 mu, and the red line area for ecological protection should not be less than 287.97 square kilometers.
Xiamen is asked to deeply integrate into the joint construction of the Belt and Road, while leading Fujian in the high-quality construction of the key regions of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and the demonstration zone for the integrated development across the Strait. In the meantime, it should align with the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Measures should be taken to accelerate the integrated development of Xiamen with Jinmen, the reply said. The city should optimize its spatial layout for modern urban agriculture, give priority to ensuring the spatial demands for the development of advanced manufacturing, scientific and technological innovation, and the culture and tourism industries.
The functions of international shipping and logistics hubs should be strengthened and the capabilities of prevention and control of marine disasters should be improved, according to the reply.
In addition, the spatial protection mechanism for cultural and natural heritages should be improved, especially for Gulangyu Island, a world heritage site, the reply added.
