The State Council approved a plan to build China into a nation strong in tourism during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30).

The plan highlighted the deep integration of culture and tourism, adopting a holistic approach to government and the market, supply and demand, protection and development, domestic and international markets, as well as development and security.

It prioritizes efforts to improve the modern tourism system, optimize the spatial layout for the sector, foster new growth drivers, and enrich the supply of tourism products and services.

The plan seeks to unlock consumption potential, upgrade service quality, promote efficient governance, and deepen international exchanges and cooperation.

It also aims to boost the tourism sector’s role to better meet people's growing needs for a better life, promote economic development, build a spiritual home, showcase China's image, and enhance mutual learning among civilizations.
