First eco-monitoring stations selected

China has selected the first group of national stations to monitor ecological quality, marking a step forward in establishing a national monitoring network, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment said on Nov 24.

A total of 55 stations, covering major ecosystems such as forest, wetland, grassland, desert, ocean, urban areas and farmland, have been selected from applications submitted by more than 200 institutions.

The stations, including one in the Miyun Reservoir in Beijing and one in the Hulunbuir prairie in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, will be mainly responsible for monitoring, accumulating data on sample areas, identifying problems, conducting research and cultivating talent, among other responsibilities.

The ministry said it will keep working to include more stations in the national ecological quality monitoring network.

Over 11 million jobs created this year

China added 11.09 million urban jobs in the first 10 months of this year, and 32.98 million people who were once poverty-stricken found work, according to new data from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

The data showed multiple central departments have been making collaborative efforts to ensure overall stability in employment since the beginning of this year.

The employment of young people, including college graduates, has remained stable, while the number of rural laborers seeking jobs in cities and towns increased, the data showed.

A large number of migrant workers from rural areas found employment after water resources authorities accelerated the construction of projects.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources, in the first three quarters of this year, national water projects provided employment for approximately 1.75 million migrant workers from rural areas, up 2.8 percent year on year. The total wages paid to them exceeded 30.6 billion yuan ($4.28 billion), a year-on-year increase of 34.7 percent.

20,000 EV charging piles installed on expressways

China had built 20,000 charging piles in expressway service areas for new energy vehicles by the end of October, the Ministry of Transport said.

It said they cover 49,000 parking spaces in 6,257 expressway service areas for passenger vehicles. By the end of October, charging piles had been installed in 94 percent of China's expressway service areas, the ministry said.

Charging facilities had been installed in all service areas of 11 provincial-level regions including Beijing, Shanghai and the provinces of Liaoning, Jilin and Zhejiang.

Telecom fraud suspects in Myanmar transferred

A total of 31,000 suspects have been transferred from Myanmar and taken into custody in China to date, the result of a crackdown on telecom fraud originating from northern Myanmar, the Ministry of Public Security announced on Nov 21.

Among the suspects are 63 alleged masterminds, organizers, or key gang members, as well as 1,531 fugitives.

Since September this year, public security authorities in regions such as Xishuangbanna, Pu'er, and Lincang in Yunnan province have collaborated with law enforcement agencies in Myanmar to carry out border law enforcement cooperation, resulting in the successful transfer of a large number of telecom fraud suspects to Chinese authorities.

In November, to further strengthen the crackdown, Chinese public security authorities intensified their law enforcement cooperation with Myanmar and launched a fierce offensive against telecom fraud crimes in the north of that country.
