Survey to find out how Chinese spend their time

The National Bureau of Statistics will conduct a nationwide time-use survey to find out how Chinese people spend their time.

The survey is scheduled to last for 21 days, starting from May 11, the bureau said in a statement. Households sampled by the bureau will participate in the survey, and subjects can do it either through a WeChat applet or by filling out paper forms.

Participants will record their activities chronologically for an entire day on a weekday, as well as on a Saturday or Sunday.

The information gathered will be kept strictly confidential, the bureau said, adding that it will issue a communique and a yearbook that will show the results.

The country carried out two time-use surveys in 2008 and 2018, but in only some of its provinces.

Airports get guidance on installing charging hubs

The Civil Aviation Administration of China has issued a guideline for equipping airport terminals with charging stations and sockets for portable electronic devices.

The guide suggests that for a terminal that handles fewer than 10 million passenger trips annually, the number of outlets in its waiting area should be no less than 5 percent of the number of seats in the area.

For a terminal that handles at least 10 million passenger trips annually, the figure should be no less than 10 percent.

The guide gives specific recommendations on the kinds of charging outlets that suit the terminals and where they should be installed, among other suggestions.

Charging stations for cellphones and tablets are among the most frequently used facilities in airport terminals, the administration said, adding that the guide will help improve travelers' experience.

Campaign launched to reduce forest fire risks

The country has started a special campaign to root out major hidden risks of forest and grassland fires and crack down on people using fire inappropriately.

The campaign was announced by five departments, including the country's forest and grassland fire-control command office and the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, China Green Times reported.

Relevant authorities from each provincial-level region have been asked to make their own plans for the campaign and implement them.

Efforts are required to detect and root out hidden risks posed by power transmission and distribution facilities in forests and pastures.

The authorities are also asked to strictly manage controlled burning, fire drills and civilian use of fire near ultrahigh voltage power lines and substations in forests and pastures.

Job recruiters fan out to hire college graduates

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security launched a recruitment campaign last week in large and medium-sized cities for university graduates.

During the campaign, which will run for more than two months, recruitment fairs will target graduates for work in sectors that are in need of professional talent, including the medical, health, advanced manufacturing and new energy industries, the ministry said in a statement.

The fairs will also be held in or for enterprises from regions such as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

There will also be small, customized recruitment fairs designed according to local industries and the needs of both university graduates and employers.
