A 6.6-magnitude earthquake jolted Jinggu County in Southwest China’s Yunnan province at 9:49 pm on Oct 7, and the epicenter was five kilometers deep.
Premier Li Keqiang expressed great concern and immediately gave instructions.
He asked officials to swiftly check the situation in quake-hit areas and do everything possible to rescue people and save the injured, thus minimizing casualties.
Li requested that those affected by the quake should be properly relocated - and they should have access to basic necessities.
The Premier also ordered the authorities to repair damaged infrastructure, fix disruptions to transportation and communications, and ensure the delivery of relief supplies.
He asked the government to closely monitor aftershocks and prevent secondary disasters, and also release information concerning the situation as early as possible.
A joint group - supported by the National Commission for Disaster Reduction, the State Council’s earthquake relief headquarters and relevant departments - should be immediately sent to the quake zone to guide and assist the relief and rescue operation and limit the damage, Li ordered.
