Premier Li meets with Bangladeshi prime minister

Premier Li Keqiang met with visiting Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina on July 4.

Bangladesh is a significant partner of China in South Asia, Premier Li said, adding that both have never failed to understand and support each other whenever it comes to respective core interests and major concerns, he said.

The China-Bangladesh strategic cooperative partnership came into place when President Xi Jinping made a state visit to Bangladesh in 2016, the Premier said.

China is willing to intensify high-level exchanges with Bangladesh, deepen reciprocal cooperation, facilitate civilian exchanges, and enable the China-Bangladesh relations to scale new heights, said the Premier.

Premier Li said that both sides are densely populated, developing countries, faced with momentous tasks such as economic development and improving people’s wellbeing, going onto say that the China-Bangladesh partnership has made laudable achievements and holds great potential and broad prospects.

China is willing to better align the Belt and Road Initiative with Bangladesh’s development strategy and push forward win-win cooperation in various fields, said the Premier.

China is also willing to negotiate on free-trade protocols, expand imports of quality goods from Bangladesh that meet China’s market demands, promote the balanced development of bilateral trade, and bring convenience to investment and personnel exchanges between the two sides, the Premier said.

China will also continue to help Bangladesh by jointly stepping up the construction of Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, through which both countries can realize common development and complement each other by linking a huge market of approximately 3 billion people.

Additionally, China will also play an active role safeguarding regional stability and development by increasing regional communication and coordination, the Premier said.

Sheikh Hasina extended her congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and praised the fruitful China-Bangladesh ties.

Bangladesh is willing to jointly celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Bangladesh relations in 2020, she said.

Bangladesh is propelling the implementation of the “Golden Bangladesh” project and is willing to join the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, she said.

After the meeting, Premier Li and Sheikh Hasina jointly witnessed the signing of a string of documents on bilateral cooperative projects, including two-way investment, cultural tourism, water conservancy, and so forth. And both sides will release a joint statement.

Premier Li held a welcoming ceremony for Sheikh Hasina prior to the meeting.

Other attendees included Wang Yi, state councilor and foreign minister, Wang Zhengwei, vice-chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), He Lifeng, vice-chairman of the CPPCC and head of the National Development and Reform Commission.
