Premier Li Keqiang on July 26 gave instructions to a teleconference on ensuring safety in production nationwide.

The Premier stressed the importance of production safety and experiences learned from previous accidents.

In his instruction, he called for a system specifying the safety responsibilities of government departments and enterprises in production.

To prevent major accidents and protect people’s lives and property, efforts should be intensified to build safety facilities, identify and remove hidden dangers, refine the law enforcement system, and prevent risks regarding dangerous chemicals, mines and other key industries, the Premier said.

The conference said that the total number of accidents, as well as those considered serious, has decreased, and that most industries and regions recorded improvements in production safety this year.

However, production safety is still a challenging issue.

The conference, chaired by State Councilor Wang Yong, called for more efforts to prevent and control safety risks in key industries, improve safety supervision mechanisms, enhance support for safety production, and prevent serious accidents.

It also asked for attention to production safety during flood season, a strengthening of the responsibility and emergency response systems, and the prevention of accidents caused by natural disasters.

Vice-Premier Liu He addressed the conference.
