Premier Li Keqiang, while presiding over a State Council executive meeting on Sept 11, pressed for departments concerned to better safeguard people's basic welfare with attention fixed on problems plaguing the public.

Employment, which concerns people the most, should sit at the top of the government's agenda, the Premier said.

Income comes from no other than jobs, which almost accounts for most of the income earned by migrant workers. Concerned departments should not only focus on reasonable economic growth but also a corresponding income level.

It was decided at the meeting that improved job-hunting services should be provided for university graduates. Enterprises in difficulty will receive assistance with stable recruitment and favorable job transfers.

Additionally, more channels will be accessible to urban and migrant workers.

The constantly rising cost of pork has been at the center of the public's attention recently. Premier Li urged carrying out the policies regarding guaranteeing a stable supply of pork and its price immediately, putting an end to unreasonable restrictions and sanctions on pig-raising.

Resuming hog production is the most pressing matter at present. The concerned departments should engage a thorough social enquiry to effectively cope with this problem, Premier Li said.

The market supply of pork products should remain impervious on New Year's Day and for Spring Festival in 2020, the Premier said.

Moreover, the Premier urged ensuring the basic needs of disaster-affected residents, especially those who are relocated.

Full and timely payment of aged-care pensions should be guaranteed without any neglect and delay, he stressed, adding that financial funds should give priority to salary payments of compulsory education teachers and its fulfillment should be assured.

Any potential and unexpected issues concerning people’s basic welfare should be detected in a timely manner and resolved with determined efforts, Premier Li said.

Those at the Sept 11 meeting decided to enhance support for private investors to invest in improving inclusive and high-quality education, and medical, elderly, and daycare services, and push forward renovation of old residential communities and shantytowns.

Efforts should be made to integrate government work with people’s urgent basic welfare needs. Only when the foundation of people’s lives is consolidated, the foundation of economic development will be reinforced, Premier Li said.
