Dec 1 is the 32nd annual World AIDS Day. Premier Li Keqiang issued an important instruction concerning AIDS prevention and treatment.

According to the instruction, AIDS prevention and treatment is related to people’s health and safety, thus is an important task in building a healthy China. China’s AIDS prevention and treatment has achieved remarkable results through joint efforts from all related departments, but extra attention is still needed due to new conditions.

Premier Li said related departments should stress the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and earnestly implement the decisions and arrangements made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.

"We should take reform and improvement of disease prevention and control as an opportunity to achieve more innovations in management mechanism and methods," he said, adding that better public health services must be delivered by upgrading the service network and placing stress on key regions, groups and links to make unremitting efforts toward prevention and treatment of AIDS and other major infectious diseases.

The Premier clarified in the instruction that all levels of government and departments should carry out their responsibilities to increase investment, make effective and down-to-earth efforts in ensuring treatment, relief and medical security for patients. More key problems in science and technology, such as drug development, should be tackled, while more humanistic care should be delivered to patients to keep improving quality of life.

With an emphasis on AIDS prevention, education and intervention should play a more important role, Premier Li stressed in the instruction. Monitoring and early warning systems should be strengthened and social organizations should be encouraged to participate in AIDS prevention, he added.
